The Director, Chief Engineer is responsible for delivering the technical, cost and schedule performance for all engineering content within the divisionS/he provides strategic technical leadership, establishing and directing all aspects of the division engineering policies, objectives and initiatives based on long-term product and profitability goalsS/he is responsible for supplying and maintaining adequate resources for all engineering functions in the pursuit of the division's strategic goals and operational plansThe Director, Chief Engineer is also responsible for the overall organizational health of the engineering workforce and for the recruitment, retention, and development of top talentThe Director of Engineering's primary responsibility is to lead a cross-functional engineering team to cultivate innovative product solutions, advance critical technology enablers, and execute product development projects that serve the Government/DoD and International markets for the Surface and C5 Systems divisionThe Director of Engineering is responsible for ensuring technical, cost and schedule execution of the Engineering content of programsThe position requires flexibility to manage multiple customer requirements (cost, schedule, technical capabilities), while using analytical and strategic skills to guide the engineering team to successfull program deliveries of customer needsA key part of this role is to work collaboratively across organizational boundries and ensure programs are smoothly transitioned to production and deployment phases.
The Chief Engineering must be able to interact with Sector peers, Segment and Corporate technical leaders and diverse customersThe successful candidate is an experienced technical and business professional who is able to focus simultaneously on near and long term objectivesESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES oBuild, lead and manage the cross-functional engineering organization dedicated to the ongoing advancement of the Engineering team and division product roadmapsoTechnical, cost and schdeule accountability for technical project execution oManagement of engineering staffing demand, allocation of resources and posting of requisitions to successfully support the divisionoWork with the Engineering Leadership Team to conduct ongoing skills assessment and proactively address potential skills gapsLead and mentor the engineering leadership team to continue to develop strong technical leadersoPlanning and execution of product development, from product definition through production transition, across all markets to meet division goals and objectivesoManage Internal Research and Development (IRAD) portfolio and develop and maintain product technology roadmap oManage Engineering organization budgetsoChampion the New Product Introduction (NPI) processoDecision maker for high level / high impact engineering technical issuesoWorking in conjunction with the Sector leadership, co-develop the organization's growth and product strategyoDevelop and support a culture of continuous improvement and best practices within the Engineering organizationoMaintain a climate of fostering a high level of employee motivation, performance, and commitmentOversees staffing plans and reviews work plans and schedules for each phase of a project in accordance with time limitations and fundingoRepresents engineering organization with major customers and stakeholders

oA Bachelor's degree in Engineering; A Master's degree in Engineering or a Master's of Business Administration is highly desired o15 years of applicable experience in a product development role; DoD experience a must, with 10 years experience leading cross functional teams oExperience leading large engineering organizations that are geographically diverse oMust hold an active Secret level Security Clearance; a Top Secret/SCI is preferred, which requires US Citizenship COMPETENCIES:
